Our aim at Tomlinscote Sixth Form College is very simple: we want to be the best provider of post-16 education in the country. Already recognised by OFSTED (in May 2011) as an Outstanding Sixth Form College, we continue to provide a wide range of students with the highest quality of education. Our success is achieved through outstanding teaching, through the support we provide our students, and through the opportunities we offer outside of the classroom.
With high quality teaching in a supportive environment students can grow and learn in appropriately sized classes. We offer support and guidance to all students to ensure they learn and progress throughout their time here. In addition, we offer students a range of fantastic opportunities to broaden their experiences through our thriving and ever expanding enrichment and extra-curricular programme. We also expect every learner to contribute some of their time to volunteering, both within and beyond the school. This, I believe, is what makes a young person rounded and attractive to an employer or to a university admissions tutor. You will have access to a wide range of trips offered by many of our subject staff. Finally you will also be invited to take action. The Sixth Form leads the way in raising funds for worthy causes through our hugely popular Rag Week and focus days.
Tomlinscote is not only an A-level Sixth Form College. I am proud that we offer a range of Level Two and Level Three vocational courses in areas such as Catering, Beauty Therapy, Hairderessing, Construction, Football Coaching and Childcare. These courses are hosted in our impressive new Vocational Centre situated at the entrance to our school site. The Sixth Form and its students, led by the Young Chamber, and steered by our Sixth Form Leadership, is therefore entirely in touch with industry and the requirements of the modern workplace. I’m delighted to report that many of our students go on to serve apprenticeships before taking up skilled roles in their chosen field. Employers frequently report that they will only consider Tomlinscote students for apprenticeships due of the quality of our course experiences.
I encourage you to visit our Sixth Form and to see our students in action. I have no doubt that you will witness learning of the highest quality and you will see young people moving confidently towards employment or Higher Education. When you visit us, you will find a vibrant community of young people and teaching staff who are learning and developing together. Our next formal Open Day takes place on Thursday 13th October 2016 but please feel welcome to visit us before then. Should you choose to join us to study, you will be doing so at the very best moment – this Sixth Form is not only outstanding but is thriving and growing.
I look forward to meeting you.
